Paralegal Technology

Dear readers, my name is Gabrielle Larose and I'm currently in my second year of Paralegal Technology in College Ahuntsic. This glossary will be to anyone who wants to learn the different work related glossary of Paralegal Technology. I will choose my several terms with the help of the internet and my own head. To help myself with the definitions I've used different online websites.

Authentic act.
Authentic act is a noun.
A writing executed in accordance with law which requires that each party sign it before a public officer (as a notary public) and two witnesses and that the public officer and witnesses also sign it
Example: The authentic act is a full proof of an agreement.

Courthouse
Courthouse is a noun.
A building in which a judicial court is held.
Example: I've been once to Laval's courthouse to visit.

Deposition.
Deposition is a noun.
The process of giving sworn evidence.
Example: This person is going to give their deposition.

A person getting recorded for their deposition.
Document.
A document is a noun.
A piece of written, printed, or electronic matter that provides information or evidence or that serves as an official record.
Example: All file contain documents.

Felony.
Felony is a noun.
A crime, typically one involving violence, regarded as more serious than a misdemeanor, and usually punishable by imprisonment for more than one year or by death.
Example: Robbing a bank is a felony.

Interrogatories

A written question which is formally put to one party in a case by another party and which must be answered.
Example: One of the tasks of the paralegal are to prepare and provide answers to interrogatories.

Judge
Judge is a noun.
A public official appointed to decide cases in a court of law.
Example: You need to be a lawyer to become a judge in the future.

Judgment
Judgment is a noun.
.The ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions.
Example: The judge made this final judgment for this person.

Judicial district.
Judicial district is noun.
A judicial district or legal district denotes the territorial area for which a legal court (usually a district court) has jurisdiction.
Example: Montreal is in the judicial district of Montreal.

Jurisprudence.
Jurisprudence is a noun.
The study of law and the principles on which law is based
Example: This weekend I've read some jurisprudence for my Thursday class.

Jury
Noun.
A body of people (typically twelve in number) sworn to give a verdict in a legal case on the basis of evidence submitted to them in court.
Example: My grandfather was one of Guy Turcotte's jury.

Law
Law is a noun.
the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
Example: The Civil Code of Quebec is a body of laws and rules.

Lawsuit.
Lawsuit is a noun.
A claim or dispute brought to a court of law for adjudication.
Example: My friend fielded a lawsuit against her neighbors.

Lawyer
Lawyer is a noun.
A person who practices or studies law; an attorney or a counselor.
Example: My best friend wants to become a lawyer.

Legal case
Legal case is a noun.
A legal case is in a general sense a dispute between opposing parties which may be resolved by a court, or by some equivalent legal process.
Example: The possibility of a legal case is the first concern of many companies.

Mediator
Mediator is a noun.
A person whose job is to mediate in a disagreement (= talk to the people or groups involved to help them find a solution):
Example: Mediators help to solve conflicts.

A person in between two persons trying to make them communicate.
Notary.
Notary is a noun.
A person authorized to perform certain legal formalities, especially to draw up or certify contracts, deeds, and other documents for use in other jurisdictions.
Example: Two of my teachers are notaries.

Paralegal.
Paralegal is a noun.
A paralegal is a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.
Example: In the future I want to become a paralegal for my mom's work.

Research memos
noun
The general notion of research memos is that somewhere between the research per se and the writing of a dissertation or book about it, there's a need for short writings (500-1000 words) on specific topics.
Example: I have to submit my research memos Thursday.

Right is a noun.
A moral or legal entitlement to have or obtain something or to act in a certain way.
Example: Every human has rights.

About me

Dear readers, My name is Gabrielle Larose and I've been studying in Paralegal Technology at Ahuntsic College for the past year in a half of this three-year program. I choose this program because I've always been attracted to anything surrounding the justice and law. After the three-year program I would like to become a paralegal in a law firm or work or the court, and I don't plan ongoing to the university. This field of study brings me satisfaction because I get the chance to learn about something that I'm passionate about.
